Workshops & Lectures

We believe in the power of education to spread awareness and increase the impact of the people who have been so kind to share their work with us.

The Sanctuary team is available for lectures and workshops on storytelling, rescue and animal photojournalism.

Contact us for more information and watch this virtual presentation for the Animals in Wars Symposium hosted by the Global Research Network.

Screenings

Transfarming Switzerland documents one animal activist’s unique approach: to work with, not against, animal farmers. Sarah Heiligtag transforms animal farms across Switzerland and Europe into vegan farms and animal sanctuaries. Looking to make a drastic change in their business, animal farmers learn about Sarah, make contact with her and together they develop a plan to transform. Their reasons are both environmental and moral.

Transfarming Switzerland has been screened in numerous languages for audiences all over the world. Watch the film here and get in touch with us to schedule a free screening.

Free Mentorship

Photography can be used as a tool to go deeper in to yourself, and in doing so, deeper into the whole human experience.

Since one photographer can only make so many images, and in the spirit of practice, I am offering free mentorship sessions to new and working animal photojournalists and filmmakers. Topics range from composition and use of light to editing and sequencing your work and how to develop your storytelling. We’ll explore the relationship between you, the camera and the story to find out that there is no separation between these things when you give yourself fully.

Send me note for more information, or schedule a session here.

-Thomas Machowicz, Sanctuary co-founder.

Exhibitions

An exhibition brings photos to life in a different and meaningful way.

Viewers become immersed in a collection of captivating and thought-provoking images that showcase the beauty and difficulty in the world around us; inspiring conversation, compassion and change.

Contact us to bring these stories to your gallery or institution.
